Mary Ahern

CEO

Mary joined Alps in 2004 and has been the Chief Executive since 2009. As the daughter of Dr Kevin Conway, the founder of Alps, Mary follows the strong tradition of ensuring that improving the life chances of young people remains the central ambition of the organisation.

Toby Ahern

Deputy CEO

Toby joined Alps in 2004. Primarily responsible for sales and marketing, Toby has overseen the visual development of our reports as well as developing relationships with new groups of schools, colleges, academy chains and local authorities and with the DfE.

Ian Yems

Deputy CEO

Ian worked as a consultant with Alps before joining full time in 2011 as a Deputy CEO. Previously, Ian was the Vice Principal of John Leggott College, a Beacon college. Ian was the Director of Teaching & Learning at Greenhead College, where he worked with Dr Kevin Conway.

Steve Pegg

Deputy CEO

Steve joined Alps in 2011, working full time on our education and training services. Prior to joining Alps, Steve worked in schools, GFE and sixth form colleges throughout a long and varied career, latterly as principal for nine years.

Rick Boyce

Software Team Leader

Rick leads the Alps software team and is responsible for the on-going development of the Alps report suite and software. Rick joined Alps in 2011, having previously worked as a software developer and project manager at Cardinal Newman College, Lancashire.

Karen Woolven

Senior Educational Consultant

Karen joined the Alps team as a Senior Educational Advisor in September 2013. Prior to joining Alps, Karen was head of a large and outstanding chemistry department at Greenhead College, where she had also worked with Dr Kevin Conway.

John Philip

Senior Educational Consultant

John joined Alps in 2009. John was previously Deputy Headteacher at Little Heath School, where he used Alps to achieve top 2% performance in value added terms. John is also a PiXL Associate.

Martin Rostron

Senior Educational Consultant

Martin joined Alps in 2013, after retiring as principal of Greenhead College, where the Alps system was created and developed by Dr Kevin Conway. Formerly an English teacher, Martin has experience in comprehensive schools, general FE and sixth form Colleges.

Sean Hanan

Education Consultant

Sean joined the Alps team in 2013 having worked for Ofsted for the previous ten years, leading inspections of FE and sixth form colleges and secondary schools. Prior to that, he worked in several sixth form colleges and a school, in teaching, management and senior management roles. Between August 2015 and July 2016 Sean circumnavigated the globe as part of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

David Bell

Education Consultant

David Bell has been an Alps Education Consultant since 2014, having previous worked as a Deputy Headteacher in a large comprehensive school. He has been involved with Alps since 1998 when he met Kevin Conway and adopted Kevin’s inspirational philosophy in his own school to improve performance, leading to a series of outstanding Ofsted judgements.

Ian Piddington

Education Consultant

Ian Piddington is an Alps Education Consultant and joined the team in June 2016. He was previously a Deputy Head at Farlingaye High School, leading a large sixth form, and still teaches A level general studies for 2 days a week in the school. In a parallel life he sings in a band, plays golf very badly and is experimenting with pescetarianism.

Steve Wetton

Education Consultant

Steve joined Alps as an Educational Consultant in 2016 after working extensively with Alps in a number of colleges throughout his career, most recently as Principal of Bolton Sixth Form College. Working with Alps as a teacher, a middle leader, a senior manager and a Principal has provided Steve with substantial experience of the Alps processes and of effectively putting them into practice.

Neil Heeley

Senior Educational Consultant

Neil joined Alps in 2007. He was formerly Vice Principal of Greenhead College, Huddersfield. Neil worked closely with Dr Kevin Conway setting up the systems at Greenhead College that then transformed into Alps.

Steve Reed

Educational Consultant

Steve has worked with Alps since 2013. Prior to this he was Deputy Headteacher at Desborough School where he had over 10 years’ experience of using Alps in raising sixth form achievement.   Steve also works in Initial Teacher Education and is a tutor on the Open University PGCE programme.

Nick Travis

Communications & Media Officer

Nick joined Alps in 2014 working on social media, digital and marketing, having previously worked in corporate communications for Cancer Research UK.  Nick graduated from Newcastle University in 2006 with a degree in history.

Richard Morgan

Support Team Leader

Richard is the leader of the Support Team and joined Alps in November 2015, having previously worked as a data analyst. Richard has extensive experience of data analysis having worked in the sector for 8 years prior to joining Alps.  He holds a degree in mathematics from the University of Warwick.

Lesley Conway

HR & Legal Manager

Lesley worked in a national law firm for 6 years, qualifying as an employment solicitor in 2009. She joined Alps in January 2013, managing human resources and assisting with other legal and contractual issues.

Mary Conway

Senior Finance Administrator

Mary joined Alps in 2008, after working at a language school in London and completing her degree in Eastern European languages at UCL.  She is head of the Finance and Contracts Team.

Julie Johnson

Training Co-ordinator

Julie joined Alps in 2006, and is the senior training co-ordinator responsible for booking and coordinating Alps training events in schools, colleges, local authorities and other educational bodies.  Julie worked in administration for many years prior to joining Alps.

Nicola Law

Administration Team Leader

Nicola is the Admin Team Leader and Finance officer and joined Alps in January 2012. Nicola has worked in customer service for the past 15 years and has overall responsibility for office management, the processing of data, conferences and events and also assists the finance team.

Colin Dawson

Non-Executive Director

Colin joined the Alps board as Non-Executive Director in 2013. He has 20 years’ experience as a successful business growth planning specialist and strategist. He ran a business of his own for 16 years and holds two other directorships.

Dave Linnell OBE

Non-Executive Director

Dave Linnell OBE, joined the Alps board as a non-executive director in 2013. Dave Linnell  was previously Chief Executive of Cornwall College and principal of John Leggott SFC, both of which were awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further Education and Higher Education.
